About Funded Legal Education Program
The Office of the Judge Advocate General (OTJAG) annually accepts applications for the Army’s Funded Legal Education Program (FLEP). Under this program, the Army sends active duty commissioned officers to law school at government expense if funding permits. Selected officers remain on active duty while attending law school and have an active duty service obligation (ADSO) upon completion.
Details are in Chapter 14, AR 27-1. This program is open to commissioned officers in the rank of second lieutenant through captain. Applicants must have at least two but not more than six years of total active Federal service at the time legal training begins. Eligibility is governed by Title 10 of the US Code and is non-waivable. Your local Staff Judge Advocate has further information.
